Goodbye to a Friend
My friend died today; it was nothing he'd done.
The cancer was growing and now finally won.
So many questions roam around in my head.
His pain was so great, I'm glad his body is dead.

And yet I'm reminded of a prayer he once made,
How he asked Christ to save him; and his sins were all paid
By the blood of a Savior who died for him and me,
And the sins of the world if they would only see.

Now cobbles shine golden and gates of great pearl
With gems their foundation, with jasper and beryl.
For Heaven's his home cause he made room in his heart
For God who promised to never depart.

And someday I will see him and he'll show me around;
He'll show me his mansion, no antiques broken down.
And we'll laugh and we'll sing and give praise to the King.
Please, give God your heart 'cause He promised great things.

Don't try to explain it
'Cause it doesn't make sense,
But this time the grass is greener
On the other side of the fence.

(written upon the death of my good friend
Jack Thorum
who was an antique dealer...
and so much more.)
Not very often does one run into an individual that is a genuine "Jack of All Trades."  Usually someone develops their skills between certain distinct lines with little or no interest in crossing those lines long enough to develop new and different skills that are way outside most individual's field of comfort or area of expertise.  When a person of such skills is tripped upon by the general public...or skeptical public...he, or she is deemed a liar, a show off, a trash talker, an odd ball, or just wacked.
That's me...wacked.  Okay.  Maybe I'm a show-off too but I had no intention of doing all this stuff.  I had planned, from a very early childhood, that I would work on cars.  I figured I could buy old beat up cars and fix them up and sell them while having my own body shop and living quite comfortably.  I never really thought about getting rich.  I just wanted to have my own business...body shop more specifically...now, I'm a Registered Nurse. I've had a precast concrete business, have written a book, have a variety of instruments and can even play a couple of them, have written numerous songs, and produced an album for another musician.  And all that doesn't include all the landscaping and remodeling and sculpting and designing I do on the side.  I don't think of it as showing off but rather I'm cheap and just enjoy doing stuff...and the greater the challenge the greater the desire.
The major change in my choice of careers was brought about by the death of a close friend.  Never in my wildest dreams did I ever plan to do anything in the medical field... but here I am and what an incredible adventure!
